Suggested itineraries:

South Corfu:

A tour to the South of Corfu Island starts with a visit at Achillion Palace, the summer residence of the Empress Elizabeth of Austria the famous Sissy.

Kaiser’s Bridge between Perama and Benitses was where the Kaiser used to anchor his yacht. Further south, Moraitika and Benitses are popular resorts with good beaches.

All routes south meet near A. Mattheos which has a monastery on top of the mountain of the same name, a prehistoric site and nearby the remains of a Byzantine fortress of Gardiki. Do not miss Lake Korission, Corfu’s largest lake. There are excellent beaches at the lake continuing all the way south. St. George Bay near Argyrades is the major resort at the area. On the west coast near Boukari you can taste fresh fish.

Further south is Lefkimi, the agricultural centre of the island. On the east coast nearby are many beaches. An interesting stop is the old salt flats where many birds nestle there.

The West Coast:

Here is Palaiokastritsa, the island’s most prestigious spot. Palaiokastritsa has numerous fine bays and coves which are ideal for family swimming and snorkelling. Good walks are available too.

We recommend a visit to the Monastery of Virgin Mary and admire the beautiful Byzantine icons. It dates from the 13th century and is situated on a small hill amongst a small forest.

Passing from Lakones you will stop at Bella Vista to admire the panorama and you will drive to Angelokastro, a Byzantine fortress that overlooks the north part of the island and is situated just outside the village of Krini.

South of Palaiokastritsa is Pelekas, one of the oldest villages of Corfu, known for its views to Ropa Valley and the spectacular sunset. There are many excellent sandy beaches nearby: Myrtiotissa, Glyfada, Kontoyialos, and Yalisakri. Driving further south you will reach Ag. Gordios, famous for the beautiful beach and the majestic cliff.

Many pine covered coves and little bays are nearby.

The East Coast:

The remains of the Venetian ship yards at Gouvia are worth visiting. Further north are the picturesque tourist resorts Dassia, Ipsos, Pyrghi

After Pyrghi and heading towards Barbati and Nissaki the road climbs higher and the olive groves reach till the beaches.

Kouloura and Kalami are just as famous and the views to neighboring Albania are just as spectacular. Kouloura is a small fishing village best viewed from above.

You might like to get of the beaten track and visit the beautiful bays around Agni.

Higher up the slopes of the mountains you can find untouched old villages with old stone houses. Life up here has remained pretty much untouched.

One of the more remarkable experiences you can have on Corfu is to visit Old Perithia high up on the slope of Mount Pantokrator. The old village was for many years uninhabited, a monument to a distant past, its inhabitants having moved closer to the sea.

Kassiopi in Roman times was the first landfall in Greece when coming from Italy. Cicero, mark Anthony, even the Emperor Nero set foot here. The Romans built a castle on the extremity of the town which was demolished and then rebuilt by the Venetians to protect the village from Turkish and pirate raids.

Between Kassiopi and Acharavi take some time for a stop at Kalamaki beach. A long sandy beach with shallow waters ideal for families.
